About Us

Chippenham Park Bowls Club is situated in Chippenham’s well maintained John Coles Park. The money to buy land for a facility to be used by the people of Chippenham was bequeathed by Mr John Coles, several times Mayor of Chippenham. The Bowls Green is Council owned but is very well maintained by the Council’s Park Staff. The green has been established since 1923 and it is believed that Welsh Miners were heavily involved in the ground works.

We are a mixed club competing in all the Wiltshire Leagues plus we encourage members to enter external tournaments as our ambassadors. We have a full and varied fixture card, thanks to our fixture secretaries, some mixed, some men or ladies only, which fills out the season. Intermingled with this are our social bowling events such as, fish and chip evenings and mixed club competition days. This we feel makes us a very friendly, social and competitive club.

We are heavily involved in encouraging new members of all ages and gender, which is the reason for our Friday evening Bowls Instruction sessions which are overseen by our coach and is open to all, just flat soled footwear is required and we supply the rest of the equipment.

Our clubhouse has a bar area, which is stocked with some fine ales, with ample seating for viewing the green or socialising, a warm welcome awaits those who visit.

We have an ample ladies changing facility along with a separate men’s changing facility, we are very pleased to have recently had erected a large visitors changing room which we must say has relieved the overcrowding issue.

We have a newly fitted kitchen in which our Catering Manager and her willing helpers produce some superb teas and suppers for our guest bowlers.

Our club and its facilities are open to all members and there is an option of becoming a social member only if so wished. Please come and see us, you will be most welcome.

The membership fee for a full season of bowls is £70 – but should you join very late in the season, an amicable fee can be arranged. Equipment lockers are available on a first come first served basis. Social Membership is £5.00.

Introduction to Bowls

We are lucky to have our resident coach Tony Bromilow who regularly attends the Friday evening sessions to pass on his bowling knowledge to people who wish to learn and also those bowlers who maybe need a little correction advice regarding their play.
